Which e-cigarette is best for vaping CBD?

11/7/2025  /   Ohm sweet Ohm

In 2025, the effectiveness of e-cigarettes in smoking cessation is well-established. Even if our government struggles to understand it, or rather closes its eyes to its benefits… Today, the use of e-cigarettes goes beyond simply vaping nicotine-based e-liquids. With France being one of the highest cannabis-consuming countries in Europe (which contains THC), and despite it being completely illegal, it is no surprise to see more and more people wishing to break this dependency as well. The trendy solution for several years now has been CBD. CBD, or cannabidiol, is a molecule derived from the cannabis plant which, unlike THC, has absolutely no psychoactive effects. It is highly valued for the numerous therapeutic benefits it is said to offer, such as relieving pain, soothing anxiety, and combating insomnia.

As it turns out, vaping is the inhalation method that allows for the best absorption of CBD by the body and faster delivery to the brain. This is why a growing number of people are discovering the vaping world through CBD e-liquids, often having no idea what hardware they need to buy to get the most out of the molecule's effects. Le Petit Vapoteur is here to guide you.

Why use a specific vape setup for CBD?

To fully enjoy your CBD e-liquid, you will need to equip yourself with a specific vape setup. Well, calling it "specific" is a bit of a stretch because, as you will see, you actually need to aim for simplicity. But why a specific e-cigarette then? The answer lies in the composition of a CBD e-liquid. It needs to be vaped differently from a nicotine e-liquid. Indeed, CBD is a more fragile molecule than nicotine; it does not cope well with excessively high temperatures, which can alter its effects and taste. Furthermore, CBD liquids are often more viscous and require suitable hardware: a moderate power output, a high resistance coil, and a tight draw close to that of a traditional cigarette. This helps preserve the properties of the CBD, ensuring a smooth and effective vape.

The 3 key criteria for choosing your CBD vape

As mentioned earlier, there are 3 main criteria to respect when you want to vape CBD e-liquids: the power output, the coil resistance, and the inhalation style. Let's look at what this actually means.

1. Low wattage (max 20-25W)

CBD is a heat-sensitive molecule. If your vape's wattage is too high, the liquid can burn, reducing the effectiveness of the CBD and creating an unpleasant taste. The ideal range is generally between 10 and 20 watts, with a maximum of 25 watts for standard CBD e-liquids. Low power output helps preserve the terpenes and CBD flavourings, offering a more enjoyable vaping experience that stays true to the product's natural taste.

2. High resistance (above 1.0 ohm)

The resistance of your e-cigarette influences the amount of vapour produced and the heating temperature. For CBD, it is recommended to use a coil with a resistance above 1 ohm. A high resistance allows the liquid to heat gently without any risk of overheating. This produces a thin, smooth vapour suited to CBD e-liquids, which are often more viscous, while avoiding any burnt taste or throat irritation.

3. Indirect inhalation (MTL)

Indirect inhalation (Mouth-to-Lung or MTL) consists of drawing the vapour into your mouth before inhaling it into your lungs, unlike direct inhalation (Direct Lung or DL). MTL replicates the sensation of a traditional cigarette, making it comfortable for beginner vapers or those looking for a gentle vape. This type of draw promotes better absorption of CBD, as the vapour stays longer in the mouth and lungs. It also limits excessive vapour production, which is usually unnecessary with CBD and can lessen the flavor experience.

The ideal hardware for CBD: Pods or Starter Kits?

As mentioned earlier in this article, there's no need to overcomplicate things when looking for the ideal hardware to vape a CBD e-liquid. A multitude of choices is available to you; you simply need to adhere to the criteria listed above.

You can opt for a pod system. Their compact size and ease of use make them an ideal choice for beginner vapers. Offering for the most part a tight draw, high-ohm coils, and decent battery life with a built-in battery, pods are a wise choice for anyone looking to get into CBD vaping. Just be sure to check the product specifications to ensure it is suitable for use with CBD e-liquids.

Vape pens or refillable disposable-style vapes are an ideal gateway into CBD e-liquid vaping. There are no settings to adjust here; you only change the cartridge once the content is finished. With permanently high coil resistances, it's the perfect product for vapers who want to keep things completely hassle-free. Brands like Marie-Jeanne offer refillable devices with CBD cartridges in a wide variety of flavours.

The final option you can turn to is a starter kit. These kits include a battery and a clearomiser, and are easy to configure. Starter kits allow you to adjust the wattage, often within a low range (10–20 W) that is perfect for CBD. They also offer versatility, as some kits can accommodate different coils and provide an MTL or a slightly airy draw depending on your choice of clearomiser.

Mistakes to avoid: Hardware not recommended for CBD

You now know which types of e-cigs will allow you to vape CBD and fully benefit from its effects. If you choose a pod system, one of the main mistakes to avoid is picking an unsuitable cartridge. Many manufacturers now offer different cartridges for the same pod model. This is the case, for example, with Voopoo, Aspire, or Nevoks, who provide vapers with both MTL and DL or DTL cartridges. As we stated previously, you must opt for an MTL cartridge to vape CBD.

If you are starting your CBD vaping journey with a starter kit, the main thing to watch out for is the clearomiser. Check the type of clearomiser as well as the ohm value of the coil. Avoid choosing a sub-ohm clearomiser, as these are dedicated to heavy vapour production and their coils have low resistance values, typically below 0.2 ohms. This type of hardware is used at high wattages—far too high for a CBD e-liquid.

Which strength should I choose for my CBD e-liquid?

In addition to selecting hardware adequate for your setup, you will need to choose the CBD strength in your e-liquid. Here are a few tips:

  • Low Strength: below 10 mg/ml, this dosage is ideal for vaping throughout the day or during long sessions. The effects are subtle.

  • Medium Strength: from 10 to 30 mg/ml. The effects are more pronounced, and it should be consumed in sessions lasting 10 to 15 minutes.

  • High Strength: ranging from 30 to 50 mg/ml, the effects of the CBD will be very prominent, and it should be vaped in short sessions.

For those who wish to precisely control the CBD dosage in their e-liquid, you can opt for the DIY method. Following the exact same process used to mix your own nicotine liquids, you have the option to create your own CBD e-liquid. In this case, you will replace nicotine shots with one (or more) CBD boosters to control the strength.
