Opinions about the MTL Flint Kit by Geek Vape

Cliché

The Flint Kit is named “Silex” maybe because it’s considered as a tool? The Flint Kit to start with, the base of an Electronic Cigarette: a battery, a clearomiser and coil and there you go. All that is left to do, is fill the reservoir with e liquid.

Very simple to master, the Flint Kit is convenient for beginners. It is also convenient to have close to hand, as you can carry it everywhere without being burdened with your usual mod. The major asset of the Flint Kit is the miniature size. The kit is slightly bigger than the 18650 battery. It is very rare to have a tubular so small!

Not even 10cm in height and 22mm in diameter, let’s say the Flint Kit sits comfortably in the hand, not a cliché, its true.

The Flint Battery

We owe this beautiful performance to the tube format of the 1000 mAh battery. This battery is very vogue, which is agreeable and can be carried everywhere. Simplicity before all, the Flint battery has only one activation button. A miniscule LED indicates the charging level of the battery and has an entry for the USB Micro Cable which is supplied allowing the recharge of the battery. The LED can also indicate the power of your vape. I mention this below.

We note that the kit is classed IPX5 which simply signifies that the battery is protected against projections of liquids and eventually leaking of e liquids. But this does not mean that you should try swimming with the Flint Kit in your swimsuit, be careful...The waterproof is a commercial argument which is very much appreciated by Geek Vape.

The recharge of the battery has a reasonable capacity: 5V/1A. You can count on about 1 hour for a complete charge.

As a pod, you would think that 1000 mAh is a low capacity compared to a box, but in truth the demand of energy it provides with the coil supplied. These are high coils, superior of 1.0Ω and therefore less greedy with the e liquids and more with pulls more on the battery.

The Flint Clearomiser

The Flint Clearomiser is almost as simple to use as the battery. With a design which is very much successful you will immediately observe the vocation of the clearomiser: the MTL, the vape in indirect inhaling. It is simple enough to observe the miniscule aeration holes and the fine drip tip to understand the objective.

For the aeration you have 5 airflows of a different size. Very small openings which offer a tight pull. The adjustable aeration ring is very well made. Flexible but not too much, the chosen aeration does not move.

The drip tip is in Ultem, fine and slender. There is only problem which I find with this: it cannot be replaced. The drip tip is solidary of the top cap and is impossible to replace. For this reason? Mystery. And if I drop my Flint Kit, the drip tip is broken. What to do? I do not understand the motivation of Geek Vape.

The filling of the reservoir, which has a capacity of 2ml is effectuated from the top cap by pushing it towards the back. The top cap opens quite easily so be carefu if the kit is placed in your pocket or bag.

The Flint Coils

The coils that are delivered are called the NS Coils. NS for “Nicotine Salts” of course, and Nicotine Salts on the market are booming. However, this does not prevent you from vaping e liquids you want, as long as the rate of Vegetable Glycerine does not exceed 50%. The openings for the e liquids of the NS coils are minuscules. They are reserved for fluid e liquids.

Be careful when initiating the coil with e liquid, the NS Coil are very fragile. Wait a good 5 minutes before pressing on the switch which is not luxe. The coil is screwed on the chimney and can only be changed when the reservoir is empty. It is therefore a little less practical in case of problems with the coil.

Two NS Coils are supplied with the Flint Kit, in 1.20Ω and 1.60Ω. Depending on Geek Vape, the 1.20Ω coil allows you to vape e liquids with a low rate of nicotine salts, such as 10mg/ml for example. As long as you use 1.60Ω for 20mg/ml. Theoretically this is not false, but honestly it is difficult to perceive the difference between the two coils for the dry hit. Precision: this is my feeling.

For flavour, the NS Coils holds up, I’ve found my Classic Minimal flavour without hesitation. The work of the airflows is pertinent, equally allowing the difference between the 5 pulls which are proposed.

As I mentioned above, the LED of the battery does not only indicate the level of the battery. When it starts to flash it performs this function. But during the vape, it indicates the power of the battery. In effect, the battery offers 3 different powers which can be chosen by clicking on the switch 3 times. Take for example the NS Coils, with the 1.20Ω the setting on red send an output power of 8.5 watts, in blue 10 watts and in Green 12 Watts. To resume, the colour Green for a high power, Blue for medium power and Red for low power... The colour codes gets me...!!

You can feel the difference between each output power, even if it does seem minimalist, the variations of the watts make sense with e liquids containing nicotine salts. The hit in the throat is powerful.  

Conclusion

In conclusion the exploitation of the nicotine salts is really interesting with the Flint Kit. It allows simple and efficient utilisation of the product for a satisfying render of flavour. The quality of vape is there but on the level of the coils, in my opinion, is a slightly under the rendering of the BVC Coils (obviously irreplaceable). The mini format of the kit has an asset which is very much appreciated, the kit is completely nomad and has a design which is very successful. If we exclude the small problems of the Clearomiser (drip tip, top cap) which are not crippling, the Flint Kit has done its job.
