The Drag H40 pod mod is rather surprising. Almost as long as its sleeker, slimmer sibling the Argus P1S, the Drag H40 is round in shape and finished in leather. The key difference is that it's been designed for a vape with real punch, capable of producing plenty of vapour.

Another notable difference: the Drag H40 pod is compatible with the new PnP Pod 2 cartridges, and only those. With this cartridge, Voopoo has gone back to the drawing board to offer something slimmer than previous cartridges, while still keeping a generous 5ml capacity, essential for the type of vape this device is built for (DTL, direct-lung inhalation, etc.).

So, a new cartridge, but it still works with the full range of PnP coils. The pod recognises coils anywhere from 0.10Ω up to 3.0Ω, so there's plenty of choice. That said, you'll be limited by the pod's maximum power output of 40 watts. Because, let's face it, a small pod mod is great, but a battery capable of vaping at 70 watts for any length of time simply doesn't exist yet.

Vapers can opt for slightly more DL-oriented coils, typically RDL, or go for MTL instead. A small detail that may interest fans of indirect inhalation: the PnP Pod 2 cartridge is compatible with standard 510 drip-tips. A "flavour" drip-tip, for a more refined rendering, is also included with the pod mod.

In short, the range of PnP coils available for RDL or MTL vaping makes the Drag H40 pod genuinely appealing. For MTL vaping, the pod really shines thanks to the excellent battery life provided by its capacity, of course, but also by its 1500mAh battery. A genuinely economical vape, all in all.

As for airflow, the pod is clearly designed for a tight draw, with two tiny openings on its adjustment ring. Worth noting too that this adjustment ring is well made, with the cartridge held firmly in place within the pod, meaning your airflow setting won't budge once you've set it.

A quick word on the GENE.AI chipset and its two vaping modes. Nothing here to worry beginner vapers: we've got the now-familiar Smart mode, always a handy thing to have, along with an RBA mode that, frankly, only really serves as a way of bypassing Smart mode, which is a bit of a shame. With both modes, vapers are free to choose whatever wattage they like; contrary to popular belief, Smart mode doesn't actually restrict your choice of wattage. It simply recommends a suitable power level and won't let you exceed what the coil can handle, which makes it genuinely practical. RBA mode lets you vape anywhere from 5 to 40 watts, full stop. The two included coils allow for vaping up to 36 watts with the PnP-TW30, and 35 watts with the PnP-VM3. There's no way to lock the wattage on this pod.

In use, the Drag H40 pod, and especially its cartridge, doesn't cause any significant leaking, with the coil holding onto the e-liquid pretty well. The higher the wattage, though, the more likely you are to get the odd drop of condensation around the connection point. Voopoo recommends giving the connection a quick, regular clean. This is, indeed, a recurring issue with quite a few pods that use removable, replaceable coils, and not just from Voopoo.

Voopoo also recommends filling the tank to about two-thirds, to reduce the pressure of the liquid towards the bottom of the cartridge. This tip remains valid for plenty of other atomisers and cartridges too.

The Drag H40 pod is genuinely pleasant to use, with its short, round shape. When it comes to vaping, we're really in RDL territory here, with sensible wattages. Battery life only benefits as a result. Personally, I found MTL use perfectly satisfying with the airflow closed right down and the MTL drip-tip fitted, and battery life is then particularly good.
