Vaping and saving money, it's possible!

We've discussed the question of savings with e-liquids (Save money with DIY !). Let's now move on to the equipment. How to vape more affordably and ensure that the vaping budget doesn't surpass the previous cigarette budget?

Let's examine the budget "hotspots," the expenses to avoid or reduce. On one hand, we have consumables that are essential. On the other hand, we have our equipment which, unfortunately, can break down and requires care and maintenance.

Clearomiser owners know well that the coil budget can add up. Replacing a coil every three days, even while respecting the power range, raises questions. It is known that e-liquids with a high content of vegetable glycerine or rich in flavours accelerate coil wear. The frequency of puffs matters too. Chain vaping, not allowing the liquid to properly saturate the coil, can lead to quicker wear. Easing off on chain vaping could be a solution. Therefore, spacing out the puffs is advisable.

Another possible approach is to simply lower the wattage. The mesh sheets that make up many coils, as well as the mods, are highly reactive. The heating is immediate and intense. Perhaps this is too much for the materials? Lowering the wattage can be considered. The advantage is not having to give up your favourite e-liquid.

A well-known way to save money is to switch to a rebuildable atomiser. What was once quite an adventure is now becoming easier. With simpler build decks, pre-made coils... Cotton wicking remains the only skill to master. For using resistive wire coils, some knowledge is required. Coil calculators are of great help. For beginners in rebuilding, ready-to-use coils are very convenient but a bit more expensive.

The advantage of rebuildable equipment is (among other things) that you only need to replace the cotton wick when the flavours diminish. It's also possible to clean the coil by brushing it, heating it to remove all impurities. However, the coil is not eternal. A coil that turns black or rust-like needs to be replaced promptly.

The drawback of rebuildable equipment is that you need to know your equipment well. For instance, you wouldn't install a large coil with a diameter over 3 mm on a build deck designed for MTL (mouth-to-lung) vaping. Conversely, using small coils on a large build deck could cause leaks. Therefore, it's important to gather enough information before deciding on a model.

What's great about atomisers, from standard clearomisers to rebuildables, is that they can be disassembled and cleaned. It's a way to extend the lifespan of your equipment. However, there's one aspect that can be overlooked, and that's the lifespan of the seals or O-rings. Through repeated tank filling, screwing, and disassembling, it's possible to lose or damage a seal. Unlike high-end equipment, replacement seals are nearly impossible to find. Once the spare parts packet is used up, it's over. We're forced to replace our equipment because of an unavailable component, which is unfortunate.

Let's move on to the other part of the e-cigarette: the box, mod, tube, or battery. What powers the atomiser, in short. Let's set aside all accidental drops or toilet plunges, as it's evident that all of that is harmful to the equipment. Just note that we should keep in mind that the weak point of an e-cigarette is its connection to the atomiser. Thus, a fall or a strong impact on the atomiser can have consequences for the mod's connection. The connection becomes unstable, or even non-existent, and messages like "check ato" or "no atomiser" might appear on the screen.

Another issue related to this connection is e-liquid that descends from the atomiser and discreetly leaks into the connection. How many beautiful mods have I lost due to recurring leaks under my atomiser? The box, the tube, aren't all sealed on the inside. The chipset gets flooded, condensation appears on the screen... It's the end!

Unless you're skilled at DIY with solid knowledge...

The solution is preventive: regularly wipe the connection clean. Since we're talking about connections, the transition is made to mention, once again, the other connection, the USB. Another sensitive point of the e-cigarette which, with frequent use, deteriorates or becomes filled with foreign matter (to put it plainly, dirt). Here too, occasional maintenance can be useful. Avoid cleaning the connection with a metallic object when the e-cig is powered on. Just a friendly reminder...

And I won't even get into discussing recharging battery box mods with a USB cable since everything is covered in this article!
