Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 Kit Review

It hasn't taken long for e-cigarette manufacturer Geekvape to unveil its latest addition. Following the success of the third version of the Aegis Legend and all the new technology it brought along with it, it's hardly surprising to see Geekvape giving another of its flagship models from the Aegis range a fresh makeover! The Aegis Solo is therefore back, fitted with Geekvape's latest features.

Two Versions of the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3

The first surprise when Geekvape announced the arrival of the Aegis Solo 3 is that it's not just one, but two versions hitting the shelves. Geekvape is offering us two different models of the Aegis Solo 3 here.

In terms of looks and features, the two are identical in every respect; only a trained eye would be able to tell them apart at first glance. The difference lies in the battery: one comes with a built-in 3000mAh battery, while the other, much like the Aegis Solo 2, runs on a removable 18650 battery. Both offer power output of up to 100 watts, geared towards indirect-lung vaping with plenty of vapour. Each one also features a USB-C port for fast charging. For the removable battery version, though, it's best to charge using a dedicated battery charger for added safety.

Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 Design

As mentioned earlier, the overall look hasn't really changed all that much. There's no doubt about it: this is unmistakably an Aegis Solo. The main difference lies in how it feels in the hand. The grip's coating is far more pleasant to hold, with a really soft feel, almost like a soft-touch finish. This coating, as it happens, hides quite a few surprises, which we'll come back to shortly. All in all, while the Aegis Solo 3 e-cigarette looks very similar to its predecessor, it feels noticeably more modern and gives the impression of even better build quality, despite the original already setting a high bar for what's currently available in e-cigarette kits.

The fire button remains identical to the previous version. 5 clicks turn the box on or off, while 3 clicks let you navigate the menu. The navigation buttons, however, no longer protrude from the box. Still positioned beneath the colour TFT screen, they now sit flush with the surface, giving the box an even more modern feel. The screen itself makes it easy to read all the information vapers need: battery level, mode, wattage, voltage, puff counter, coil resistance value, it's all there!

One thing you'll notice with this new version of the Aegis Solo is that the sliding "A-lock" switch, previously found on the side of the box and used to lock it to prevent any accidental firing, has now disappeared…

Smart Lock Technology

If the lock switch has disappeared, there's a good reason for it. As I mentioned earlier, the grip's coating hides quite a few surprises. Most vapers who follow the world of vaping closely, or fans of the brand, will have noticed a new technology appear a few months back, fitted to what was then the brand's latest model (the Aegis Legend 3). This feature is, quite simply, a smart locking system based on touch technology.

It's hardly surprising to see it make its way onto the Aegis Solo 3. For anyone unfamiliar with this feature, a quick explanation is in order. Geekvape has recently developed a technology that automatically locks the box when it's not in use, unlocking again the moment a vaper simply picks it up. So how does it actually work, you might ask? Well, it's actually pretty simple. Hidden beneath the grip's coating are 3 sensors that detect when the box is being held by a vaper, it really is as straightforward as that. This technology is bound to save plenty of coils from being put through their paces unnecessarily, something that often happens when an e-cigarette gets left switched on inside a pocket or a bag…

Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 Features

As for features, the Aegis Solo 3 certainly doesn't fall short! And no, this definitely isn't a disposable… The box is fitted with the AS Chip 4.0 chipset, which optimises power output to help extend battery capacity.

There are several modes available, including the well-known SMART mode, which lets the box recognise the coil that's fitted and automatically settle on the most suitable wattage for it. There's also Power mode, for adjusting wattage manually to your liking, TC-TCR mode, and a boosting mode that pushes the Aegis Solo 3 to its absolute maximum potential. And finally, two new modes: an Eco mode, which is fairly self-explanatory, and a Memory mode that lets you save your preferred settings on the box, with up to 5 different profiles storable at once. What's more, this e-cigarette offers plenty of scope for personalisation too, with the option to choose the colour of your menu. As you can see, the Aegis Solo 3 is a genuinely well-rounded box!

Where Geekvape has also surprised us is with the choice of clearomiser fitted to the top of this kit. It's none other than the well-known Z Subohm Tank, a genuine relic of the vaping world, if I can put it that way. You might have expected Geekvape to fit its latest box with the newest clearomiser in the Z range, the Z Fli. But that's not the case here, with the manufacturer instead opting for the Z Subohm, perhaps to keep things distinct from its Aegis Legend 3 kit? Either way, this clearomiser comes paired with the equally famous Z series coils, which put the focus firmly on vapour and flavour.
