E-liquids formulated with Végétol are by no means a new phenomenon. In 2014, Vincent Bonnarme and Antoine Piccirilli from Xérès Laboratories (based in Poitiers) created Ilixir, the very first e-liquid made entirely from Végétol. Since then, Ilixir has simply been renamed Végétol and is now available in two distinct versions: Végétol Pure for the 100% Végétol blend, and Végétol Cloud, which incorporates 40% vegetable glycerin.

Over the years, Ilixir and Végétol have truly made a name for themselves in the vaping world. Végétol possesses intrinsic properties that are highly beneficial for beginner vapers, as well as those who suffer from propylene glycol intolerances. Feedback from the vaping community is extensive: Végétol serves as a genuine alternative to PG for individuals dealing with allergies (in fact, Végétol is also used in cosmetics as a non-irritating substitute for propylene glycol). As a quick reminder, Végétol is derived exclusively from plant sources. Within the food industry, Végétol is commonly used to protect moisture-sensitive products (such as biscuits). In short, Végétol didn't just appear out of thin air; its use is incredibly widespread. Furthermore, its production is actually more eco-friendly than that of standard PG in terms of environmental impact.

The official website Végétol.fr provides an abundance of technical specifications regarding its e-liquids. This is excellent for any vaper wishing to research the product before committing to a purchase. This emphasis on clarity and education is highly commendable and offers reassurance. An information leaflet is also included with every single bottle.

A Natural Throat Hit

Its application in vaping makes perfect sense because Végétol delivers a natural throat hit that is far superior to standard PG. Its neutral flavour profile (albeit with a very subtle sweetness) can be an excellent option for vapers who have grown tired of conventional e-liquid flavours. The complete absence of flavourings and VG is also fantastic news for our coils, which stay in prime condition for much longer (as VG + flavourings = gunk). Another major benefit is the lack of lingering ambient aromas while vaping—a level of discretion that many will appreciate. Last but certainly not least, Végétol does not require ultra-high wattage e-cigarettes to be enjoyed! Firing at lower wattages means much better battery life.

Breaking the Habit

Furthermore, Végétol is a compelling option for dual-users (vapo-smokers)—those who struggle with standard vaping or find it difficult to make a clean break from tobacco cigarettes. As we know, e-liquids deliver nicotine to the body more slowly than a traditional cigarette, which means your nicotine strength must be adjusted accordingly to satisfy cravings. Thanks to Végétol and its pronounced natural throat hit, the familiar sensation of smoking a cigarette is accurately replicated. This provides an undeniable advantage when trying to transition smoothly. While the nicotine absorbs, you get the distinct sensation of a real cigarette, or very close to it.

For context, I personally vape at 3mg nicotine strength, and sometimes zero. I haven't touched a cigarette in 4 years. Yet, vaping Végétol Pure at 6mg instantly brought back memories of my smoking days! This applies both to the throat sensation and the overall flavour experience. That was my personal takeaway.

Testing it Out

I asked a few smokers to test Végétol for themselves. Opinions varied when it came to the taste—some found it too sweet, others not sweet enough—but every single one of them noticed the robust throat hit. Without a doubt, Végétol Pure is highly recommended for first-time switchers, as the experience is well worth trying. Better yet, you don't need to purchase an overpriced setup to vape it properly. An all-in-one starter kit like the eGo AIO, for example, will easily do the trick, I'm certain of it.

Consequently, Végétol Pure e-liquid consists of 100% Végétol and is available in 4 nicotine strengths, including a 0mg option. Végétol.fr recommends using it between 7 and 15 watts, and I am inclined to agree. Tested using an atomiser with a 0.85Ω coil, the throat hit was exceptionally pronounced for me (as well as for my smoking friends). At 6mg strength, I prefer vaping it with a fairly open draw. With a tighter draw, the throat hit becomes even more intense. The vapour production is decent but not overly dense, which is perfectly normal for pure Végétol.

Végétol + Flavourings?

On a personal level, the slightly sweet undertone doesn't bother me, though flavour perceptions will always remain highly subjective. I've been asked if it's possible to add flavourings to Végétol—vape-safe concentrates, obviously. The answer is yes, there are no issues therewith. You simply need to follow a few basic guidelines, just like with standard DIY mixing. Vincent Bonnarme from Xérès Laboratories explains this further:

Vincent Bonnarme: Working with Végétol alongside flavourings requires a different approach compared to traditional PG/VG bases. It's important to understand that Végétol acts as a flavour enhancer for specific aromatic molecules. Essentially, it opens up a different aromatic landscape compared to standard PG/VG setups. The olfactory sensations for identical formulations can turn out completely different when comparing PG/VG versus Végétol/VG. The extensive studies we have conducted on the matter thoroughly support these findings.

For instance, we can actually lower the concentration of certain flavourings and still achieve the exact same olfactory perception that would require a much more concentrated PG/VG base.

Another distinct quality of Végétol is that it generates a more intense vapour than its counterpart, pure PG (without VG). This property also carries over to identical Végétol/VG formulations.

When it comes to DIY mixing, a proper steeping period remains essential for the flavours to develop fully. Naturally, the higher the VG concentration, the more you will need to adjust your steeping time accordingly.

Following this advice, I tested Végétol Pure with a relatively straightforward concentrate: Antidote by Virus Vape, which requires very little steeping time. It works perfectly; Végétol blends seamlessly with whatever flavours you choose. In terms of taste customisation, this is a major plus point.

The brand-new Végétol Cloud version was specifically engineered for vapers for whom cloud production is a vital factor. The formulation of Végétol Cloud sits at 60% Végétol and 40% vegetable glycerin. The sweet profile is more apparent here due to the addition of VG. The recommended power range for this version is 15 to 30 watts. There is absolutely no need to use sub-ohm hardware; doing so won't provide any added benefit. Fired at 30 watts on the exact same atomiser, the vapour is indeed noticeably denser—which is precisely the goal—while the throat hit remains fully present!

Ultimately, we have two highly practical products worth discovering or rediscovering. The team at Végétol has announced an upcoming full line of pre-flavoured e-liquids, which is the logical next step since it meets a genuine consumer demand. And further down the line? A dedicated base liquid for DIY mixing? Only time will tell in these obscure TPD days...

Ce produit est tout simplement magique comparé aux autres, il n'irrite pas alors que j'avais les lèvres en feux avec les autres! Je ne comprends pas pourquoi ce produit est introuvable dans les boutiques à paris... Je pose la question est les vendeurs me donnent toujours des raisons bidons... Comme si sur ce produit entièrement français il y a avait une kabbale!

Ca fait maintenant un peu plus de 3 mois que je suis passée au Végétol Pure et bien que je l'adore en tous points, je remarque que depuis quelques semaines, j'ai la bouche et la gorge très sèche.. C'est vrai que je ne bois pas d'eau pendant que je vape mais le reste du temps, oui. Je n'avais jamais ressenti ça avec les e liquides que je consommais avant ( 50GV / 50MPG ) Je viens de commander le Végétol Cloud pour voir comment ça se passe.. Je n'ai malheureusement pas trouvé de commentaires à ce sujet...tout le monde a l'air heureux...:/ en tous cas, j'adore le goût, la vapeur, le hit et la nicotine ( 3mg ) qui monte très vite.

Le prix ? Avec les nouvelles règles de la TPD, il suffit de prendre les bases en 15mg et le couper avec de la VG DIY pour s'y retrouver sans problème. Très bonne alternative pour les intolérant ou allergique au PG/MPG/PGV/MPGV (1.2 Propane diol)
